The following is a list of informative reference books to assist those wishing to take the Nondestructive Examination Coordination endorsement test.
- NDE qualification and certification programs. The endorsement holder should demonstrate an understanding of the programs and governing standards that determine how NDE agencies are assessed and what the training and certification requirements are for NDE practitioners.
- NDE methods. The endorsement holder should demonstrate an understanding of the basic elements necessary for each of the major NDE methods. This will prepare the holder to oversee the selection of the proper NDE method from the perspective of the advantages and limitations of each method.
- NDE Coordination. The endorsement holder should demonstrate knowledge of inspection test plans, sampling protocols, probabilities of detection, and how to interpret data collected from NDE reports.

Objectives-demonstrate capabilities in the following:
(1) Implement the organization’s responsibilities.
(2) Work with an engineering specification or drawing, determine which base material – filler metal combination would be applicable for procedure qualification testing.
(3) Evaluate welding process(es) required for the application and determine the essential variables impacting the qualification process.
(4) Determine if a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is required to be qualified by testing, is suitable for prequalification, or if there are alternative WPS’s that could be utilized.
(5) Determine the equipment needed for preparing and taking required measurements to be recorded during welding of the test plates.
(6) Perform oversight of the welding of the weld test.
(7) Determine the final NDE requirements of the weld test.
(8) Determine the destructive mechanical testing required per the governing standard(s).
(9) Correctly prepare the test specimens from the test coupons.

- An understanding of the definition of welding coordination, the tasks of welding coordinators in a company, and being able to assist companies in meeting the requirements of ISO 14731.
- An understanding of the basic elements necessary to establish a welding quality assurance program, principles of being an auditor as well as an auditee, the major features of the most common welding quality assurance programs, (i.e., ASME, AISC, ISO, and AWS programs).
- The capability of advising a manufacturer as to how to conduct the basic elements of manufacturing a welded product, including estimation, design, qualification, throughput, and process improvement.
